More stamps

Here ae some more stamps that I found that I would love to design some bike related around.

Thanks to the grain edit (they deserve an entire post of their own but will do it another time) and especially this CR Monograph post

Bike porn

A really charming phrase I've picked up the more blogs I've read but it refers to looking at bikes and covetting them and salivating over them. Usually if people have taken loads of pictures of cool bikes they've seen or as in this case old bike adverts. I really like the datedness (if that's a word) of them. they look so 1980s and before hipsters got hold of them and it was about the bike. I'm thining about a fanzine or something that could be designed and laid out like this with a really nostalgic feel to it. Here they are.

Other stuff I found

I don't know what title to post these under but wanted to out them up because I think they're ace. They show different sides of design that could be used to advertise or encourage cycling but here they are.

Pretty self explanitory but it's a prt of a campaign to make drivers think about other non-motor drivers on the road. Have a look here, think it's in Chicago.

Pretty twee cover a magazine but shows the idealic side of riding a bike and appeals to a certain audience less concerned with being cool.

Again does exactly what's on the side of the tin but looks ace. Great colours.

Really like this one, looks like it could be some 1940s advert for riding in the Lake District.

I've probably written something like this loads of times but this really is amazing! I think this is probably the best bike design I've seen so far. I think it speaks for itself.

(I'm getting bad at this because I must have been in a mad hurry to save all these and then move onto something else because I don't know where I got any of these and I don't know who did them? If anyone knows then I'll defo give credit where it's due, sorry.)

Bike stamps

One of the most distinctive and unique things about fixed gear bikes is the iconic three or five-spoked wheels that riders sometmes have on the front wheel. From what I understand these can be considered a bit try hard and for people more concerned about attracting attention. However, from a design point of view these are something that, as I said, are specific and recognisable to fixed gear bikes and so could allow for some degree of interpretation. I found this one poster (sorry I can't remember where I found it so would give credit but don't knw who too but it was either on Tracko or The Bootleg Sessions) which displays them really nicely and cleanly.

I then also found this bike stamp (again I don't know where this was but will be either of the same blogs above but can't remember the designer, sorry!) which I think is such a cool idea! The idea that stamps commemerate a hero or a festival or whatever but can be a canvas could be great. I'm excited by these revelations.

Mike Giant

Mike Giant is a really respected artist that began his career as a graffiti writer but is now more known for his amazing drawings. He does these without sketching them out first but rather goes straight for it and does it all with a sharpie. He does tatooes too but I love his fixed gear drawings. Here is an interview with him from a recent show (you have to check this link because it's amazing stuff!) and some of my favourite pieces from that show.

Thank you Tracko

All Caps

Found this again on SFGFC (love this blog!) and thought there is so much scope for doing a really really good cleanly designed bike cap. Here are some nice, proper eighties, examples I found.

Fixed mag

One of the biggest things that got me thinking or into track bike stuff was reading in the Carhartt magazine RUGGED about a new magazine coming out in their shops called Fixed. I read the little blurb and found the blog and that the first issue was available as a download but that the Manchester Carhartt shop had said they only had 200 of them and they all went in two days!? I really liked the pdf but wanted the physical edition. Then I saw on their blog they had a premiere of a film called Macaframa to launch the second issue so I went to London to get it and watched the film. Absolutely briliiant. Watch the teaser trailers here on vimeo.
